Robert M. Clinger III, Former Candidate for Horry County Council District
#2, Comments on Prospective Future Campaigns and his Political Career
Myrtle Beach, SC (PRWEB) July 21, 2006 -- Robert M. Clinger III, Republican candidate for the Horry County
Council District #2 seat, who was defeated in the primary election held on June 13, 2006, made brief comments
relating to prospective future campaigns last week. Mr. Clinger, who is also the co-founder of Highland Global,
LLC (www.HighlandGlobal.com) and co-founder, chief economist and commentator of Thinking Outside the
Boxe (www.ThinkingOutsideTheBoxe.com), made the comments in response to several questions at a private
July 4th celebration for friends and family in Florida. Mr. Clinger’s comments were as follows:
“After our defeat in the Horry County Council District #2 race, a number of my supporters and other members
of our community asked me if I planned to stay active in politics. Though I have no immediate plans for
seeking another office in 2008, I do plan to remain active, particularly in Horry County.
"Just to put to rest any remaining concerns, let me make clear that the County Council race is over for me.
There were some who had encouraged me to pursue a victory as a write-in candidate in November. Whilst I
appreciate their confidence and support, the people of District #2 have chosen a representative. Let us stand by
Mr. Schulz.
"These last few months have been quite exhausting, and now I am focused on catching up with projects at
Highland Global and Thinking Outside the Boxe. There is much work left to be done growing both those
enterprises, and I am completely dedicated to ensuring their success and the success of our clients. So, I think it
would be quite premature to speculate on another campaign at this point.
"However, I will answer the people of this county, this state, or this country should they call upon me to serve
them in public office. Some people are disenfranchised with Senator Lindsay Graham, but I have a great deal of
respect for him. He has served the State of South Carolina with distinction. Though I disagree with some of his
ideas and positions, I think that it would be quite difficult to mount a challenge to him as the incumbent. Should
he be chosen as a vice presidential running mate for the presidential election in 2008, we can always reexamine
whether we would pursue the Senate seat that he would be vacating. Likewise, we will examine other
opportunities such as a vice presidential bid or appointments to independent committees, commissions, or
boards should they be offered at various levels.
“As I said in this last campaign, I am confident that my background and experience in finance, economics, and
strategic planning would be a valuable asset to the people of this county or state, particularly as we take a look
at the number of challenges we face for the future. I hope that I can put my experience and knowledge to use
for the people of Horry County and South Carolina.”
